The primary focus for 2007 will be for student and voluntourist group accommodation in barrack room, bunk bed style.
There will however be 4-6 rooms double ‘guest bedrooms’, in two buildings each with shared bathrooms, set aside for journalists, birdwatchers and those who are happy to accept cleanliness and comfort in this rustic setting.
– available from 31st October 2008.
There will be 16 tented houses – each some 60 sq. m in size, and each set on a raised platform of its own, on the slope overlooking the Lodge proper.
The concept features an almost oblong shaped tent – lengthways along the slope face, consisting of a rear entranceway onto lounge area, sleeping section to the right, and bathroom area (plus extra bed space) to the right.
The 10 m frontage of the tent will have canvas curtains over thick mosquito netting, allow guests to draw the entire 10 metre length (2 x 5m) for unobstructed ‘tree top level’ views onto the canopy below and to the mountain on the far side of the Mae Lai stream.
The entire high roofed ‘insect proof tent house’ structure, will rest on the wooden platform, and be covered by an outside skin – a thick thatched roof.
The unique feature in the design the concept is that the occupant can live, day and night, with a 10 m wide panoramic view onto the forest at tree top level, seen through sheer mosquito netting, without others being able to peer in.
We feel that if you are going to stay in the forest, you might as well get as close to it as possible, so that you may enjoy its sights and sounds 24/24, yet without inviting it inside beyond the netting.
